Overview

"Knot Behavin'" is a lifetime freshwater 380 Sundancer that has been comprehensively re-equipped from the helm out. In 2021 and 2022 the current owner invested in a complete Raymarine Axiom+ navigation refit, a thermal night-vision and safety package rarely seen on a boat this size, a full Fusion Apollo audio system, a lithium house bank, and a new Sunbrella camper-top enclosure.

The result is a classic Sea Ray express cruiser layout — two private sleeping areas, full galley, enclosed head with separate shower, and a large entertaining cockpit — paired with electronics and safety systems that would be at home on a boat three times the price. Original MerCruiser gasoline engines with approximately 784 hours, both running strong with no known deficiencies. Westerbeke 7kW generator runs strong and carries the entire boat at anchor or underway.

Four seasons of Lake Ontario cruising and consistently maintained. Never in salt water.

Hauled and stored indoors every single winter in a fully enclosed barn at the marina — not shrink-wrapped in a yard. Combined with a lifetime freshwater history, that is why the hull, gelcoat, canvas and brightwork present the way they do on a boat of this age. No known blistering.

Thermal Night Vision & Safety — The Standout Feature

This is what sets "Knot Behavin'" apart from every other 380 on the market.

FLIR M232 pan-and-tilt marine thermal camera feeds live thermal video to any or all three Axiom+ displays. On the 12" screen the image quality is exceptional. In total darkness it reveals unlit boats, floating debris, deadheads, channel markers, shoreline and — critically — people in the water. The camera detects objects both above and below the surface for genuine 360-degree situational awareness after sunset.

The M232 also integrates with the plotters' Man Overboard function: trigger MOB and the camera slews to the target and actively tracks the person in the water while the rescue is carried out. Very few boats in this size range have this capability.

Paired with Doppler radar sensitive enough to paint birds on the water, plus Class B AIS transmit and receive, this boat offers a level of low-visibility and night-running confidence that is genuinely rare in a 38-foot express cruiser.

FLIR AX8 thermal imaging camera is permanently mounted in the engine bay for continuous condition and temperature monitoring — early warning on exhaust, belt, and bearing temperatures before a problem becomes a casualty.

• Oil and filter changes performed on schedule by the owner since.

• No known mechanical concerns on either engine or the Westerbeke generator.

Known Conditions — Sold As-Is

The owner would rather a buyer hear this up front than find it on survey. Nothing here is a project:

• Shower door needs adjustment to close fully.

• Salon sink drains slowly. Long-standing, no other symptoms.

• Fuel gauges fluctuate under power. Both gauges began doing this at the same time in 2022, which rules out the sending units — almost certainly a shared ground or common feed at the helm. Not chased down.

• Bottom paint was last applied in 2020 by the previous owner; no records convey. It is due for a coat. Sold as-is.

The Bottom Line

Freshwater-only history, moderate hours on strong original engines, and roughly $30k of upgrades including Raymarine, FLIR, Fusion and lithium-power investment already done and sorted out. The hard, expensive, time-consuming part of owning a 25-year-old express cruiser — bringing the systems into the modern era — has already been paid for.

The Sea Ray 380 Sundancer has sleek lines with durable construction. On the inside, the 380 Sundancer's cabin is spacious and elegant. Plenty of natural light is provided by three translucent deck hatches with interior sky screen covers. Everywhere in the cabin, luxurious appointments abound: handcrafted wood trim, tastefully coordinated fabrics, indirect lighting, deep-pile marine-grade carpet, and contemporary granite-colored countertops. The large salon area converts from a practical dinette to extra sleeping space by stowing the table and opening up the convertible sleeper sofa. The 380 Sundancer features standard entertainment centers in the salon and forward stateroom, complete with TV - VCR - radio combinations, antenna, and TV coax to dockside. For music lovers, a Clarion AM-FM digital cassette stereo with six-disc CD changer, subwoofer, eight speakers, and a cockpit remote control comes standard as well. The private forward stateroom of the Sea Ray 380 Sundancer provides ideal accommodations with its full-size bed and matching linens, plentiful storage, and sliding privacy door. In the mid stateroom, a plush sofa quickly converts to an extra bed with the flip of a switch. The head and vanity area features a VacuFlush head with holding tank. Even the galley is equipped for easy living with a two-burner electric stove, coffee maker, microwave, and a large refrigerator. Abovedeck, cockpit seating is carefully arranged for maximum passenger and storage room with a fully adjustable helm seat (with flip-up thigh-rise) and a roomy companion seat with its own storage compartment below. A large U-shaped seat with sunpad and table creates an ideal gathering spot or a haven for sunbathing. Rich burl instrument panels, a tan gelcoated dash, custom Sea Ray backlit instrumentation with low-glare blue night lighting, hydraulic steering with a tilt wheel, plus standard Raytheon electronics, make the helm the best seat on board. Other conveniences include snap-in carpet liner, a complete dockside power system, and a cockpit ice maker plus a wetbar tucked into the portside panel. Beneath the electrically operated engine hatch, the Sea Ray 380 Sundancer is powered by twin 380 horsepower MerCruiser V-drives for a ride that's as confident as it is smooth. To assure safety and reliability, the 380 Sundancer comes with a standard remote start generator, an engine synchronizer gauge, and halon system. There are engine alarms and a digital LCD systems monitor for engine diagnostics and pump monitoring at the helm.
