Krista Boat | 48' Ocean 1989

Septic system/gray & black water:

I have the entire septic system removed and ready for replacement with modern Raritan or similar toilets

The mid ship containment system was leaking and needed replacement , experience with the "macerators" antiquated design and location - removed them with the rest of septic system.

There is also a new midship tank with most fittings that need's to be installed - it is on the boat.

The tank that was under the main state room bed has been removed, this may need to be replaced if you want the extra "black water storage" - There is a cutout of the floor in companionway that will need access door - the original was built into inaccessible location.

Thru hull fittings/valves:

Old valves have been removed and hull plugged with expanding foam - did this until new valves were installed while working on the hard - all the old valves are in a blue tote under the boat.

Bridge/Helm:

  • The synchronizer control needs to be replaced
  • Trim tab control same
  • The GPS & Loran same...antiquated
  • Spotlight is new, remote is in upper compartment

Engines 671 TI's:

  • Port side engine needs service, just turbo and air system.
  • Starboard engine fine
  • I would do a thorough cleaning on both pressurized air/turbo system

Generator:

  • Recently serviced the generator - under 50 hours ago - cleaned out venturi, flushed out system and oil change.

Salon/Galley/Stateroom AC (2 units):

  • Air conditioning condenser units are new, needs controller, I had these working with Nest thermostat - I don't remember the make. Setup my own test control box - utilized the high and low limits as factory wiring specs. The raw water valve was too small for 2 units. - recommend either (2) 3/4" thru hulls or (1) 1" using scoop - the original 3/4" had moderate buildup of barnacles within the screen. - bigger is better - was fine in port, when cruising high limit would cut out.

New items in Galley:

  • Fridge
  • Microwave
  • Dishwasher
  • Air conditioner - fresh air type for servicing (temporary while on the hard)
  • Garbage disposal
  • Kitchen faucet
  • Ambient RGB lighting (Bluetooth/smart things app)

Original or working fine as is components:

  • Trash compactor
  • Central vac works fine - all parts under steps
  • Washer (under steps) and dryer (side of fridge) work great
  • Fresh water tank/pump and plumbing works fine, no leaks
  • Cockpit sink works fine
  • All freshwater spigots are fine.

Railing:

  • We removed most of the railing, there was some leaking at the fixture points on the deck, clean and dry now - I was going to create my own just for pulpit area - the Main state rooms wall covering was stained from water leakage - that is why it is removed.

Pulpit:

Pulpit Anchor motor works fine - simple footswitch on pulpit deck pull only system.

Cockpit:

  • 24v cockpit lights - replaced the 110v residential flood lamps - Added a 24v dc Power supply

Outriggers:

  • The Outriggers are underneath the boat - will need a good cleaning and re-lining, wasn't sure if I was going to keep these on her or sell them.

Transom:

  • There should be spare prop shaft in the spare prop shaft containment
  • The fish door hinges need to be replaced, door is removed to prevent injury boarding vessel
  • Props, shaft, hanger bearings & seals are all good.
  • Under boat lamps are new 2020 - RGB - switch is under the Right storage compartment - where the main power cord runs through.

Salon:

  • The original carpet is in decent shape
  • 40" television/new speakers and Boss stereo
  • This ia a 3 stateroom 2 head layout.
  • Offers presented.

Here is an excerpt from Power and Motor Yacht on the series;

After taking a close look at an Ocean 48 Super Sport, it’s easy to understand why more than 400 were built.

Jack Leek founded Ocean Yachts in 1977. Since then, three generations of Leeks have assembled yachts in the company’s South Jersey plant. The 48 Super Sport is high on the leader board of the success stories produced over three-plus decades. The longevity of her appeal is derived from her one-two punch of sleek looks—both inside and out—and sound performance.

From 1986 through 2003 the 48SS had one makeover and one major redesign. Combined, more than 400 hulls were produced. By numbers alone she makes a presence on the used market, but her popularity goes much deeper than simply volume.

“The original 48 was an adaptation of the popular 46 Super Sport,” says John Leek IV, Ocean’s General Manager. “We learned a lot from those owners. The 46SS offered a two- and three-stateroom layout, and the 48 improved upon that with greater interior volume and a more contemporary style.”

“When the 48SS was introduced, Ocean was ahead of its time as far as amenities,” continues Leek. “The 48-footer had a custom-boat look and the teak added to the appeal for the hardcore fisherman. The families, spouses in particular, approved of the interior.”

In 1991 the Super Sport got a makeover adding a more refined look to the house, newly designed windows, and a half tower. It continued to be powered by 485-horsepower GM 6-71 diesels. Performance with this package produced a mid-20-knot cruise with a 30-knot top end.

“Ocean strived to build yachts that were efficient to run and maintain. Customers could afford to fix anything on a 6-71, we built upscale yachts with an owner/operator mentality,” says Leek, referring the company’s overall mission.
