Mandala Boat | 42' Catalina 2002

Being offered is a 2002 Catalina 42 Mk II fully setup for long distance cruising.

MANDALA has already made a trip to Guatemala and Belize and multiple trips to New England.
She is setup with a high efficiency water-maker, lots of solar and a huge lithium battery bank, two refrigerators/freezers and tons of storage room. With over 1000 boats built, the 42 Mk II is considered one of the most popular production sailboats over 40 feet and is a favorite among cruisers for it's design, cruising performance, and comfort. The deck was designed with short-handed sailing in mind. The long horizontal skeg runs aft between the fin or wing keel and the rudder providing exceptional tracking for this monohull design.

Fully outfitted with newer electronics, auto-pilot and all lines running aft, Mandala is a treat to sail and can be single handed.

The quarter berth also has a good amount of storage.

Port side galley with two refrigerator/freezer compartments.

U-shaped layout, easy to use even under sail.

Newer gimbaled 3-burner stove/oven.

New microwave with air fry, broil, and convection features.

Dual sink.

Deck & Equipment

A large cockpit with a fold-up center table allows for relaxing, entertaining, as well as security under sail.

The cockpit has a factory-installed hard dodger with excellent visibility and a large bimini to provide shade.

A huge shade canopy, covering from the bow to the dodger, can be installed to help maintain cooler cabin temperatures in the tropical sun.

A brand-new 55 lb Mantus anchor with swivel is located in the large anchor compartment and is simple to deploy and retrieve with the electric windlass.

There is over 200 feet of heavy-duty chain along with plenty of rode, allowing you to anchor under a variety of conditions in almost any location.

A Rocna Vulcan anchor is provided as a secondary backup.

Electronics & Navigation

A full complement of newer Raymarine electronics provides everything a sailing cruiser needs to safely and accurately navigate a variety of waters.

The helm-mounted chartplotter interfaces with all instruments and the autopilot, placing all functions and important information right at your fingertips.

An AIS transponder and mast-mounted Furuno radar help ensure you can be seen and monitor surrounding vessels.

The VHF radio includes a new remote mic at the helm.

Downstairs at the nav station, an OpenCPN-based chartplotter displays all necessary data, plots courses, provides weather information, monitors batteries, and even streams music.

There are two sources for anchor alarms to provide peace of mind when on the hook.

Starlink is installed and can easily be transferred to a new account.

Electrical, Power & Plumbing

Mandala is fully self-sufficient and allows you to live off the grid.

With over 1,800 W of solar, 800 Ah of LiFePO4 batteries, and a Victron inverter, you rarely need to plug in.

The Spectra watermaker produces approximately 6 gallons per hour.

The galley stove and Magma grill run off two propane tanks in protected compartments.

The fresh water tanks on board hold a total of 100 gallons.

Each head has its own black tank.

The forward head is electric and plumbed to fresh water, while the aft head is manual and plumbed to raw water.

The hot water heater can be powered by the engine or by onboard electricity.

A heating and air conditioning system is installed and can operate on battery power if needed.

Engine & Mechanical

Mandala has a factory-installed 56 hp Yanmar diesel engine, providing plenty of power for maneuvering and motoring when sailing is not possible.

The engine is cooled with coolant rather than seawater.

Top cruising speed is 6–7 knots, depending on conditions.

An electric oil change system and fuel monitor with dual filters are located in the easily accessible engine compartment.

Mandala features the factory optional 17-gallon reserve fuel tank to help extend motoring range.

A dripless shaft seal helps keep the engine bilge clean and dry.

Sails & Rigging

New running rigging was installed this season for the mainsheet, main halyard, and jib sheets.

All lines are led back to the cockpit.

The starboard-side cabin top winch is electric.

A whisker pole is kept attached to the mast for easy access when needed.

The standing rigging was completely replaced to factory specifications in 2020.

The jib and mainsail were replaced within the past seven years and still have usable life remaining for the casual cruiser.

Additional Information

A 9-foot dinghy with a powerful 15 hp two-stroke Yamaha outboard is included and hangs from an integrated davit system on the heavy-duty all-aluminum solar arch.

A well-equipped ditch bag, signal flares, warning devices, and an EPIRB are also included.
