NORTHERN LIGHTS is a highly unique cruising yacht. She is a bonafide globe-trotter with the track record to prove it. Equally at home cruising the islands as she would be in a long offshore race, this beautiful classic is in pristine condition after having been lovingly and meticulously cared for over the last five decades. With her deck-level center cockpit she features a spacious aft cabin and private head, with two cabins and two heads forward of the large main salon. Rigging includes an in-mast furling mainsail, roller furling genoa, and a stack-pack mizzen.
She is twin screw diesel and includes an electric bow-thruster. Her shallow 5' draft means you can cruise in almost any waters, but also gives her the low drag that makes her fast and weatherly. With the centerboard down she draws 13' 10’’ and goes upwind with enthusiasm. Her electric winches mean that she can be easily sailed by just two people. Three cabins and three heads offer ample privacy and space for as many as three couples to cruise in comfort almost indefinitely.
This yacht is the brainchild of two of the foremost personalities in yachting in the 1970’s, Franz Maas and Ted Hood. Only those two geniuses working in perfect synchronization could have produced such a versatile boat without sacrificing performance. Scarcely another monohull cruising yacht can be found with so much internal volume, so much speed and maneuverability, so little draft, and so much simplicity in her operation.
She is truly a marvel to behold on the water.
