Safety and Miscellaneous

Offshore Life Raft: 6 person ELLIOT (USCG-SOLAS).
Keel: Raised by hydraulic pump driven by main engine thru electric clutch. This actuates two stainless steel hydraulic rams. There is 42 inches of travel. The keel structure is aluminum 1,500 lbs and is filled with 10,000 lbs of lead. The foil shape is a NACA. (NACA refers to a family of airfoil shapes developed by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, the NASA predecessor. In yacht design a NACA foil keel shape optimizes lift and reduces drag—especially when sailing upwind). The keel lead center of gravity is 8 ft below the water line when fully down. Silver Bullet can be sailed with the keel in the up position.
