Skebanga, a 2006 MJM 34z, is a perfect example of a classic Downeast styled dayboat/weekender that needs to be seen to be fully appreciated. Designed by Doug Zurn with the original concept developed by Bob Johnstone, co-founder of J-Boats, the MJM 34z was the first MJM model and started a remarkable string of boats for the company. The ride of this boat in a seaway is truly remarkable. The 34z's unique opening front pilothouse windows hinge up for an outstanding open-air feel and provide excellent visibility while underway. The pilothouse isinglass side curtains roll up to fully open the boat on a beautiful sunny day or close her off from the elements when the weather turns.
The 34z's layout just makes sense and reveals the sailing background of the creators. The spacious interior provides seating for six around a table that easily drops to form a large berth for two with storage and a large Samsung TV to starboard. The large, enclosed head features a VacuFlush toilet and lots of storage. The galley is to port with large refrigeration compartment, electric cooktop, microwave, and ample storage. There is also a hanging locker at the base of the companionway steps. The interior has satin-finished cherry woodwork with high gloss teak and holly flooring.
The pilothouse features matching Stidd helm chairs, opening forward windows, and great visibility all around. The operator has easy access to all of the engine controls and navigation electronics. Behind the helm chairs the 34z has loads of seating with a folding dining table. One step down takes you to the spacious aft cockpit with access to the lazerette lockers, an opening transom door, and beautiful bench setting across the back of the cockpit. Access to the engine and additional storage is made easy by the large, hinged floor hatch that can be opened with the push of a button.
