Tangent is a 2009 Tartan 3400. She is very clean, shows well and has been updated through her years.
She features a full Raymarine Electronics Package that includes, Radar, Chartplotter, Wheel Pilot, Speed, Depth and wind, (3) Group 27 AGM Batteries (2025), 16,000 BTU AC/Heat, Dodger, Bimini and Connector that was replaced (2021) and a Sailcover (2025).
The 3400's sail-handling equipment and overall rig design are aimed at achieving optimum performance with minimum hassle. The mast is built with a unique, integrated, low-friction track system, allowing the full-battened Doyle Mainsail (2024) to be easily raised and lowered within a lazy jack system. Custom-made for Tartan, the carbon-fiber boom is a "trough" design further aiding mainsail drops and mainsail flaking. To cover the main, simply pull over the boom-stored sailcover (2025) and you're done. By optimizing the Tartan 3400's strength and weight characteristics and designing an easily driven hull the Tartan 3400's standard headsail can be a smart, roller-furling 100% Doyle jib (2024), trimmed to a self-tacking cabintop track. This working sail, with the tack located just aft of the stem, is used for all upwind and heavy-air sailing while providing effortless tacking for sailing shorthanded or in a confined harbor. When sailing off the wind the optional high-clewed furling Sobstad reacher (2016) can be deployed for top performance.
She is in the water and available to be seen with an appointment.

Design and ConstructionThe Tartan 3400 CCR (Cruise Control Rig) is a highly optimized, fractional sail plan engineered by naval architect Tim Jackett to deliver high-performance cruising with effortless short-handed sail handline. Built by Tartan Yachts it relies on lightweight materials and self-tacking hardware to minimize physical effort in the cockpit.
The lead keel is attached to a shallow stump with stainless steel bolts that are accessible after removing the centerline saloon table and sump pump hardware. The different keel configurations also result in differing ballast numbers: In the beavertail keel configuration ballast is 3,700 pounds,.
The rudder is a spade and auxiliary power is a Volvo D-30 saildrive.
Tim Jackett’s focus on performance is reflected in the moderately light displacement/length ratio of 171, and the sail area/displacement ratio of more than 20; a typical cruising boat is usually in the mid-teens.
This emphasis is also reflected in construction. The hull is a composite of unidirectional E-glass, epoxy resin, and linear polyurethane Corecell. The foam coring provides stiffness as well as sound and thermal insulation and has a definite strength-to-weight advantage over a standard single-skin fiberglass hull. The 3400 deck is cored with Baltek AL 600 balsa that’s replaced with solid, reinforced laminate where deck hardware is mounted. Tartan does not through-bolt deck hardware. Stainless steel fasteners are drilled and tapped into aluminum plates molded into the deck. The advantage is that deck hardware can be removed without dealing with headliners and fasteners below. The hull-to-deck joint is the time-tested method of laying the deck on an inward-facing hull flange. A T6 aluminum flat bar is molded in, forming a full sheer-length backing plate
