The well designed one-level cockpit cabin sole offers an over-sized open area for a variety of uses. 3-Piece stamoid drop curtains enclose the pilothouse during cold (or hot) snaps or can be rolled up opening the entire area to lounging, dining or to carry water toys. "Wahoowa" conveys with a Paddle Board, Dinghy and Torqueto motor, 2-folding Dahon bikes, BBQ grill, 6 folding chairs and two cockpit tables. In terrific turn-key condition, this Back Cove Downeast 37 is new to the market and will not last long. A great alternative to the wait of building a new boat! Back Cove Builder remarks
"The Back Cove Yachts design team, led by Kevin Burns, is proud to present the Back Cove Downeast 37. This model was created to allow the fullest enjoyment on the water, with a long single level cockpit sole stretching from her transom to the companionway, a perfect design for every activity from fishing and swimming to entertaining or lounging on a pleasant day with family and friends.
The Back Cove range of single diesel engine powerboats was first introduced in 2003. Styling was to be inspired by the Maine Lobster boat: a spoon bow, a gentile sloped reverse transom and a touch of tumblehome in the topsides were blended to create a striking and elegant style. From a practical perspective, systems were to be simple and efficient to minimize the cost of ownership. A single diesel engine propulsion system and standard bow thruster were chosen for efficiency and maneuverability in tight spaces. These practical design features continue to strike a chord in the marketplace and the Back Cove Downeast 37 follows on these same principals.
A vee-hull and dependable diesel engine get her on a plane at 10 kts, and she will cruise efficiently and comfortably at 20 kts, sipping fuel at less than 15 gal/hr. Her hull has Downeast turning chines and long spray rails to provide additional lift and push spray down and away from the windshield. Built using Back Cove Yachts VIP resin-infusion process, she is both strong and quiet. CoreCell coring is used as a sandwich material to reduce engine and exhaust noise, and the best deck hardware is selected to reduce hardware "rattles" and for long-lasting elegance.
On deck, the Back Cove Downeast 37 is as practical and well laid out as other models in the Back Cove family. Wide side decks, over-sized hand rails, always a hand-hold wherever needed, highest quality hatches and port lights, large mooring cleats: all features you have come to expect from Back Cove Yachts.
Entering the cabin, one is immediately struck by a sense of space and openness, and the very elegant Herreshoff-style with white panels and cherry hardwood trim. Air and light flow nicely from overhead hatches and opening port lights. Deck hatches are fitted with retractable shades and bug screens.
Forward is a centerline queen with multiple drawers and bulk storage below. Alongside the berth are convenient shelves with storage lockers offering large spaces for personal items. To port is a hanging locker with drawers and to starboard a cedar-lined hanging locker. There is a charging station on the port side locker face for all of todays devices. A privacy curtain can be used to section off the main cabin from the salon and galley/head area.
Her galley is fitted with a solid surface countertop, large stainless sink, convection microwave and a combination stainless fridge and freezer (drawer-style). Many drawers and lockers are available for storing galley-ware. For longer cruises, a large storage space for additional galley supplies is located aft of the galley and accessible through the mates seat. There is an additional fridge and ice maker built into the aft face of the pilothouse/cockpit settees.
Her head unit offers a separate fully enclosed shower stall and freshwater flush electric toilet. There is a solid surface countertop and wood-framed mirror above the stainless sink. The head door also has a full length mirror on its interior face.
Her single-level, 150 sq ft cockpit runs from the transom door to the pilothouse companionway. There is elevated seating with a footrest that seats two. To port, the settee converts from an aft-facing L-settee to a cozy mates lounge that also seats two people. The elegant table to port may be lowered and convert to a spare berth.
The cockpit is shaded by a retractable SureShade and large lazzerette hatches provide access to equipment, fenders, lines and spares below.
The helm is fitted with a Stidd helm chair that can face the helm wheel and electronics while navigating or be turned aft to join guests. Her navigation dash has an over-sized Garmin GPS Plotter, autopilot, radar, vhf and more. Her Bow and stern thrusters can be operated via the toggles on the dash. There is an over-sized garage-like storage area below the port seating for water toys and more. The large folding removable cockpit table and (2) Dahon folding bikes fit nicely in this space.
And finally, her original aft seating boards/cushions were replaced with (6) wood/canvas folding chairs for use with the new cockpit dining table and for better access to the aft cockpit locker. This results in a clean, open and practical space for a variety of uses like entertaining or carrying water toys.
