Yacht & Boat Registering Streamlined in Virginia

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell announced a partnership between the state Department of Motor Vehicles and the state Department of Game and Inland Fisheries that supports his government reform initiative to streamline services. Beginning in late January, 2012, Virginia residents and citizens can register yachts, boats and boat trailers in a single trip to either department. They also will be able to purchase fishing licenses from either agency.

“This partnership will simplify the citizens’ interaction with state agencies. Boat owners can choose where they go to register boats and boat trailers,” McDonnell said. “Previously, boat-owners had to go to DGIF to register their boats and to DMV to register their trailers. Now it’s one-stop shopping. They can conduct both transactions at either agency.”
