Yamaha Reaches 10 Million Outboard Motors Produced

Yamaha Motors rolled its 10 millionth cumulative Yamaha outboard off the production line this week. After manufacturing its first P7, a 7-hp outboard, in July 1960, cumulative production continued to mount, reaching 5 million units in March 1996 and 8 million in October 2006. In the roughly 6 years since, another 2 million outboards have been produced, bringing the cumulative total to 10 million.

The Yamaha engine lineup is composed of 4-strokes from 2 hp to 350 hp and 2-strokes from 2 hp to 250 hp. Yamaha outboards are supplied to customers in 180 countries and territories worldwide.

Yamaha outboards are manufactured at four production bases: the Fukuroi South Factory (Fukuroi City, Shizuoka Prefecture) and group company Yamaha Kumamoto Products Co. Ltd. (Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture) in Japan; MBK Industrie in France; and Yamaha Motor da Amazonia Ltda. in Brazil. Total production from the four bases in 2012 was about 320,000 units.

Under a medium-term management plan launched this year, the company said it will set about creating new outboard technologies while continuing to develop and manufacture high-performance, easy-to-use engines that have outstanding durability and boast greater levels of compactness and weight reduction.

Yamaha also said it will pursue even better environmental friendliness and supply products tailored to the specific needs of each use environment around the world.

You can find several Yamaha options on the Beneteau 9m Barracuda, currently in the Denison new yachts lineup in Florida.
