Hans Christian 41 Traditional — Hull #56
The Final Hans Christian 41 Traditional Hull & Deck — A Rare Opportunity to Complete a Bluewater Classic
Hull #56 represents the final hull and deck of the renowned Hans Christian 41 Traditional series, offering a rare opportunity to complete a new, factory-built offshore yacht to the owner's specifications.
Constructed by Pantawee Marine Co., Ltd., the longtime Hans Christian builder in Thailand, the hull and deck were substantially completed at the factory using the materials, construction methods, and craftsmanship associated with the Hans Christian name. The vessel, together with numerous original components, was subsequently shipped to Texas for completion.
The project stalled, and the yacht has remained in indoor storage for several years. The hull and accompanying components are new and unused, providing an alternative to purchasing and refitting an older cruising yacht.
Proven Bluewater Design
The Hans Christian 41 Traditional was designed for offshore passagemaking, emphasizing strength, stability, seaworthiness, and comfort at sea.
At approximately 40'10" LOA, 13'3" beam, and 35,500 pounds displacement, the HC41T features a traditional full keel with approximately 12,000 pounds of encapsulated lead ballast, a protected skeg-hung rudder, and a cutter rig designed for versatile sail handling in offshore conditions.
The hull incorporates solid fiberglass laminate below the waterline, while the fiberglass deck is balsa-cored with plywood reinforcement in high-load areas. The substantial hull-to-deck joint is bonded and mechanically fastened, with a high bulwark providing additional structural connection.
The rudder is supported by a heavy cast-bronze heel fitting, providing protection and structural support for the steering system.
The traditional cutter configuration, including installed chainplates and structural provisions for an inner forestay and staysail, permits a flexible sail plan suited to varying offshore conditions.
Factory-Built Construction
Unlike a home-built project, Hull #56 was constructed by the original Hans Christian builder, with major structural components and specialized fittings manufactured or installed at the factory.
Completed work includes the hull, deck, structural bulkheads, mast step, compression post, engine beds, chain locker, cockpit structures, rudder system, chainplates, and various deck fittings.
The project also includes an extensive inventory of original Hans Christian bronze and stainless-steel hardware, steering and drivetrain components, electrical equipment, plumbing materials, and interior woodwork.
The doors and some custom cherry interior furniture was professionally fabricated by Custom Marine of St. Petersburg, Florida, and remains crated in storage.
New Volvo Penta Diesel
A new, zero-hour Volvo Penta D2-75 diesel engine is installed on the engine beds but has never been started or commissioned.
The engine is paired with a Hurth Marine MS25A-A transmission. Additional drivetrain components, including an Aquadrive thrust bearing, shaft components, stern bearing housing, and associated hardware, are included. Final drivetrain installation remains incomplete.
Extensive Component Inventory
A substantial inventory of original and specialty components accompanies the project, including:
This inventory preserves many specialized Hans Christian components and substantially reduces the sourcing required to complete the vessel.
Completion & Customization
Hull #56 is an unfinished new-build project, not a commissioned or turnkey yacht.
Remaining work includes the mast, standing and running rigging, sails, winches, final drivetrain installation, electrical and navigation systems, plumbing, galley and head equipment, interior systems, safety equipment, and various deck fittings and finishing details.
The unfinished condition allows the purchaser to select modern systems and equipment suited to a particular cruising program, including batteries, solar power, electronics, communications, refrigeration, watermaker, heating, ground tackle, and interior appointments.

The hull and deck are hand laid up in accordance with approved laminates and procedures. The standard hull and deck color is off white (ref. LR #8981).In the hull a combination of woven roving and chopped strand mat are used with thickness increasing towards the keel. There is a reinforcing balsa core in the topsides which stops at six inches above the waterline. Vinylester resin is used for the initial layers below the waterline. The ballast keel is encapsulated entirely within the hull molding. The deck molding has a PVC foam and/or balsa core which is replaced with plywood in high stress areas where fittings are attached. A two part epoxy barrier coat paint is applied below the boot-top for extra anti-osmosis protection.
The rudder is molded GRP with a stainless steel stock, the base of which locates onto the bottom rudder skeg. The heel fitting is a cast bronze item. The rudder post is machined to accept cable steering fittings as standard.
The standard rig for the vessel is a cutter rig with a club footed staysail to the dimensions as follows:
I 52' 0" (15.85m)
J 22’6” (6.855m)
P 48'3 ½”(14.72m)
E 15'7" (4.75m)
