ALEYAH was the most customized Ocean Series 42 built by Hank Hinckley and was recently donated to the Maine Maritime Academy by her original owner.  Thoughtfully optioned during build and cruised in Maine summers, she has been stored inside and maintained and updated with Front Street Shipyard.  Recent survey available.

Hank Hinckley is the son of Henry Hinckley and founded Ocean Cruising Yachts, a line of boats built with the same quality and craftsmanship and traditional design aesthetic as Hinckley Yachts.  ALEYAH is set up to be easily sailed and cruised by a couple with two separate sleeping cabins and a functional open interior.

Construction:

Hull:

• The hull is a fiberglass composite with Airex closed cell foam core laid up by hand in one piece construction.
• External Antimony lead keel with 1” silicone bronze keel bolts
• Fiberglass engine bed with integral engine drip pan
• All structural bulkheads are marine plywood fiberglassed to hull and deck where possible
• Fiberglass skeg hung rudder with bronze rudder post
• Bottom stripped and repainted 2023
• Flag Blue Awlgrip hull  with white boot stripe
• Rubrail above cove stripe with stainless steel chafe strip

Deck:

• Fiberglass composite hand layup with Balsa core
• White gelcoat with molded in nonskid
• Varnished teak toe rails with stainless steel midship chocks
• Custom stainless steel stem fitting with integrated bow anchor roller and bow line chocks
• Stainless steel bow rail, stern rail, stanchions and double lifelines
• Herreshoff style stainless steel bow, stern and midship cleats

Accommodations:

The interior of ALEYAH is beautifully finished in varnished butternut with a teak and holly cabin sole and a white overhead, resulting in a warm, light feel.  Coming down the companionway there is a generous head to starboard with a double berth aft cabin opposite to port.  Forward of the aft cabin is a very well laid out galley (admired by Bob Johnstone and provided inspiration for galley design on some of the cruising JBoats).   Opposite the galley is a sit down Nav station.  Forward of the galley is a dinette with drop leaf table and a full length settee opposite to starboard.  Forward of the main salon is the forward cabin with an offset double berth.

• Opening portlights and overhead hatches let in abundant natural light and ventilation.
• Paul Luke soapstone solid fuel stove provides warm dry heat below
• Storage lockers have caned fronts for ventilation
• Bulkhead reading lights and overhead dome lights provide lighting throughout.
• Sturdy drip edge detail under portlights and carefully placed hand holds bulkheads provide security moving around boat underway.

Aft Cabin:

The aft cabin at the base of the companionway provides an excellent double berth underway.

Head:

Located opposite the nav station has a large chart table with a swing out adjustable seat and can be used for navigation, as an office or to visit with the chef in the galley
