Emily Boat | 42' Hinckley 1995
INTRODUCTION:
EMILY is a very nice Hinckley Sou’wester 42 MKII that has spent almost all of her seasons in Maine and was stored inside every winter. She features the full cherry interior Hinckley is known for with the desirable dinette/quarterberth layout. On deck she has well kept teak decks and is set up for easy short handed sailing with her carbon fiber in mast with in-mast furling and electric primary winches. EMILY is currently in the water near Boothbay Harbor, Maine and ready to go sailing.
CONSTRUCTION:
Hull:
The hull is constructed using the SCRIMP® process to infuse vinylester resin in a single step under a vacuum into a cored laminate. Vinylester laminating resin is reinforced with a knit hybrid fabric of Kevlar and E-glass. A core of Divinycell PVC foam is sandwiched between the outer and inner skins of the laminate effectively creating two FRP skins connected by the Divinycell. The foam is used to make the hull stiffer and stronger without adding significant amounts of weight. Vinylester resin is used in the entire laminate in order to eliminate blistering. In such areas as the hull/deck connecting flange, centerline, keel, chainplates, rudder post, and all through-hull fittings the foam core is removed and the hull is reinforced with additional layers of fiberglass.

Deck:
The deck is a hand laid laminate using a vinylester resin which is reinforced with the knit Kevlar/E-glass hybrid fabric. Divinycell H80 foam is the core material on all horizontal surfaces. Where deck hardware such as winches, cleats, blocks, etc. are fastened to the deck, or where the deck is through-fastened and bonded to the hull flange along the sheer, the core has been eliminated and the area has been reinforced with additional layers of fiberglass.
The hull is laid up with a 4" recessed flange to receive the deck which is bonded to this surface with reinforced polyester adhesive and thru-bolted on 8' centers with additional fastenings in the area of toe rail tracks, thus assuring a strong, permanent and watertight hull/deck joint.
