Designer's Comments

By Robert Stephens and Paul Waring:

FALCON is a striking embodiment of Stephens Waring’s signature approach—where heritage lines meet forward-thinking performance. Svelte and elegant, she delivers refined sailing performance and comfort, as well as an unmatched feel at the helm.

Created in 2005 for a client whose interests drew towards long-distance ocean racing and cruising, in the years since launch, design improvements have continually enhanced performance, making her equally exceptional for course or distance racing.

In recent renovations, we refined the original design to incorporate the latest developments in naval architecture and high-performance materials. The result is spectacular, delivering a fully updated high-performance keel and rudder, and a taller rig that optimizes non-overlapping jibs for rating benefit and easier, faster sailing.

FALCON represents a high point in Spirit of Tradition design.

For a sailor looking for year-round podium potential in the Med, Caribbean, and Northeast circuits, there is no better option than FALCON on the market today.

Owner Comments

“I have been blessed to own one of the most beautiful yachts in the world…. FALCON is equally capable of luxurious cruising as well as high-performance racing against other Spirit of Tradition yachts.

When not racing, my wife, VIP guests, and I have enjoyed FALCON as an extraordinary day sailor or for short cruises with 2 guests plus 3 core crew, including a chef.”

Broker's Remarks

FALCON represents a rare combination of classic Maine yacht craftsmanship and modern Grand Prix sailing performance. Originally launched as GOSHAWK in 2005, she was conceived as a lightweight Spirit of Tradition racer and subsequently transformed through a $3 million-plus multi-year rebuild at Lyman-Morse.

Her new high-aspect bulb keel, carbon rudder, Offshore Spars carbon rig, Future Fibres EC6 standing rigging, Doyle Grand Prix sail inventory, and sophisticated hydraulic deck system give her exceptional performance, while her elegant three-cabin interior, full galley, climate control, and modern electrical systems make her equally capable as a cruising yacht.

FALCON offers a distinctive opportunity for an owner seeking a yacht with classic lines, pedigree, craftsmanship, modern performance technology, and a proven racing record.

Construction & Underbody

FALCON features a cold-molded composite hull constructed from wood, foam, and carbon fiber. The lower portion of the hull around the keel attachment incorporates a solid CNC-machined carbon plate designed to reduce weight and increase stiffness while providing the attachment structure for the new high-performance bulb keel.

A purpose-designed sacrificial crush box was incorporated to help absorb impact and mitigate damage in the event of a keel strike.

  • New high-aspect bulb keel
  • New carbon keel plug and keel trunk
  • New high-aspect carbon rudder
  • Carbon structural reinforcement around the keel attachment
  • Redesigned keel structure
  • Revised chainplate locations
  • Completely redesigned deck and sail-handling systems
  • The new keel and carbon rudder were designed and installed together to optimize performance throughout the sailing envelope.

The rig was replaced and redesigned in 2023.

  • Mast: Offshore Spars hybrid high-modulus / medium-modulus carbon

  • Mast Step: Adjustable
  • Halyard Locks: Rigging Projects bullet-style locks

  • Headsail Furler: Reckmann hydraulic semi-flush furling system

The rig was designed for lightweight durability and performance across a broad range of conditions, including New England racing and offshore/Caribbean sailing.
