For those seeking a bona fide cruising yacht, there is now the Ocean Alexander 510 Pilothouse. The Northwest-inspired design from naval architect Ed Monk Jr. is solid and sea-kindly with a sensible yet elegant interior layout. With cruising speeds of up to 20 knots, this is no ordinary modified semi-displacement. Carrying 780 gallons of fuel and the standard 420 horsepower, the choice is long range cruising at a leisurely pace or spirited performance at speed. No-nonsense cruising features include a spacious flybridge, with forward and aft access below, a generous cockpit, walk-around side decks, and a hinged radar arch. The large salon and galley invite relaxation or entertaining. The pilothouse combines a complete helm station with a comfortable settee and table for casual dining or lounging. Below, the standard layout provides two generous staterooms, both with queen berths and private heads with showers.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
"First Light's" luxurious interior layout provides a comfortable, warm living space with excellent headroom and abundant natural light throughout.
Main Salon:
Entering through the sliding door from the aft cockpit, the main salon features an L-shaped settee to port with a Hi-Lo coffee table, and free-standing armchairs to starboard. The settee can be extended to create a double berth. There is also a new flat-screen TV mounted beneath the galley bar at the forward end of the main salon, a Sony DVD player and a credenza to starboard with a built-in U-Line ice maker.
Galley:
Continuing forward to port is the very sociable galley which opens to both the salon and pilothouse, providing the chef with the opportunity to engage with guests and crew. Galley counters are formica over teak cabinets. All galley appliances have been recently replaced and comprise:
Pilothouse:
Continuing forward, stairs to starboard lead to the expansive pilothouse which blends a functional helm station with a wonderful gathering place comprising a large u-shaped settee to port with a large folding table, and a convenient pass through from the galley.
The forward helm station is amidships with excellent forward and lateral visibility and a well laid out electronic suite providing all necessary information to the skipper for safe pilotage.
Flybridge:
Internal stairs from the pilothouse provide safe, weatherproof access to the flybridge. Recently enclosed with a high quality Sunbrella enclosure with rigid polycarbonate windows on three sides and a flexible Strataglass roll up curtain aft, the flybridge provides a wonderful, weatherproof space for piloting as well as generous bench seat areas aft and to starboard. Two captains chairs at the helm station ensure comfortable seating for the pilot and co-pilot and superb visibility in all directions.
Boat Deck:
Leading aft from the flybridge is a large, open boat deck accommodating the Zodiac RIB with four stroke Yamaha outboard. A hydraulic SM1000R marine davit allows easy deployment of the tender, while the radar arch overhead can be easily folded down to reduce air draft if desired. Access to the boat deck and flybridge is also possible via external steps from the starboard weather deck aft.
Lower Deck:
Accessed via a curved staircase from the pilothouse are the dual master staterooms and heads, the workshop and main mechanical space.
The Upper Stateroom features a centerline Queen berth with a new 11" layered memory foam mattress flanked by ample storage in the form of built in drawers and hanging lockers and naturally lit by the overhead hatch and port lights. There is also a desk with a swing out stool. This stateroom is served by a dedicated ensuite head comprising a vanity with black granite slab counters, a stainless-steel sink, a separate shower stall and a Dometic electric toilet. All fixtures are high quality stainless steel by Grohe.
The Lower Stateroom is located immediately aft, with its own private entrance and features a walk-around Queen berth with new 11" layered memory foam mattress, oriented athwartships, built-in nightstands, extensive built-in storage in the form of drawers and hanging lockers, dual opening port lights and is served by its own ensuite head comprising a vanity with a granite slab counter, stainless steel sink, Grohe faucets, a Dometic electric toilet and a separate shower stall with a portlight.
Workshop & Utility Room:
Leading aft from the lower stateroom is a pass-through workshop with a work bench, storage lockers and a Splendide washer/dryer. This room serves as access to the main mechanical space and includes an overhead hatch for emergency egress to the galley.
Engine Room:
Passing aft through the workshop/utility area is the main engine room & mechanical space. This fully insulated, well-lit space provides excellent access to the primary power plants and mechanical systems, all of which are thoughtfully laid out and easily accessible.
