Iteration Boat | 53' Amel 1998

Preliminary Listing

The Amel 53 Super Maramu has a devoted following.  Known for their robust construction, including three separate water-tight compartments and legendary sea-keeping ability, they are sought-after vessels by sailors planning on passage-making and long-distance ocean cruising.  They are uniquely designed and equipped to be operated by a solo sailor or couple

ITERATION has only had two owners, both very conscientious.  Her current owners purchased her in 2017 and in 2018 sailed her to Bermuda and on to the Caribbean.  Her first owner was so fond of her that he joined the current owners on the leg to Bermuda.  For several years afterwards the owners lived aboard her in Boston.  Now land-based and with a young child, they feel that ITERATION is not getting enough use to justify continued ownership

ITERATION has newer sails and standing rigging and much other recent upgrading. There's no need for a laundromat if you own ITERATION as she has a washing machine. 8.5 kw diesel generator with low hours powers a three-zone air conditioning system.

If you're planning a long-distance cruise or are seeking a very comfortable and spacious liveaboard vessel, come have a look at ITERATION.  She may be easily inspected on her mooring in Salem Harbor.

  • (5) 100w SunPower flexible solar panels designed to mount on a bimini (there is a frame for a bimini, but currently no bimini, though there is fabric with which to construct one), each with its own dedicated Genasun MPPT charge controller - mazimizes power generation and resilience to partial shading of the panels (See January, 2020 issue of Sail Magazine for an article written by one of the owners about this specific design).

  • Owner's note: a quick rundown of the electrical system:  Shore power accepts either American 240V/50A@60Hz or European 230V (32A or 16A with included adapters) @50Hz.  Most systems on board are fine with either, except the clothes washer, which requires European power — conveniently, this is the output of the generator, so if you want to run the washer, just start the generator (it will auto switch over from shore power). Most wall outlets on board are European type, but with provided USA adapters, one can plug in 240V-tolerant USA equipment, such as most phone and laptop chargers. There are 4 USA 120V outlets on board (one dedicated to the microwave) which are powered solely by the inverter (they do not directly connect to shore power). The house electrical system is 24VDC.  Power is provided by the battery charger (via shore power or generator), engine 24V alternator, or solar panels. The instruments run on 12VDC, so they have a DC-DC converter to power them (actually 2 for redundancy) from the 24V house bank. The generator and engine starters run on 12VDC, and have a dedicated starting battery, separate from the instrument 12V system.  This battery is charged by alternators on both engine and generator.
