MYSTERY is a custom Ted Fontaine–designed pilothouse performance cruiser built by Lyman-Morse in Thomaston, Maine. Conceived for fast, comfortable offshore cruising with a small crew, she features a shoal-draft keel/centerboard configuration with a protected center cockpit, extensive powered sail handling and a true inside steering station.
Her centerboard arrangement provides a draft range from 6' 6" with the board raised to 14' 2" when lowered, combining access to shoal cruising grounds with enhanced performance upwind. Her carbon rig, hydraulic furling systems and cockpit-centered sail controls are configured for efficient shorthanded operation.
Below, the Herreshoff-inspired interior combines painted panels and overheads with extensive varnished mahogany and teak joinery. Three private cabins and three heads provide eight individual berths to comfortably accommodate three couples. A generous main salon, protected passageway galley, unique pilothouse upper salon and unusually accessible machinery space complete the arrangement.

The interior of MYSTERY is exquisitely finished with varnished solid mahogany trim, detailed signature raised paneled locker fronts, with a mix of painted white flat and tongue and groove vertical surfaces for a classic Herreshoff look. Hull ceilings are painted white, with faux deck beams with painted grooved overhead panels throughout. Floorboards are gloss-finished teak and holly. Upholstery, mattresses and curtains renewed 2023 by S&S Fabrics with linens by Leontine Linens. There is LED lighting throughout, lee cloths for all eight berths and full set of floor covers.
Pilothouse
The well-appointed pilothouse is rare for this size yacht and provides both a fully functional inside steering station and another area with dining for four and gathering up to six guests comfortably. There is a U-shaped settee to port with fixed table, and an L-settee to starboard – both elevated to provide great views in all directions, protected front and sides by (7) large, fixed windows. There are two opening hatches and two removable aft windows in the cockpit to create an indoor-outdoor space and provide great natural ventilation – the space also has full climate control with heating and air conditioning.
Main Salon
The main salon is just three steps down from the pilothouse. There is a large U-shaped dining settee to starboard with a custom expandable inlaid table and two custom movable chairs inboard. To port is an L-settee and desk with storage, abundant stowage, hanging brass lantern and gallery lighting. There are two deck hatches, four opening portholes and four hull portlights to create a light and airy space.

Guest Cabins Forward
Symmetrical port and starboard guest cabins, each with upper and lower single berths, hanging locker, and a centerline bureau. Each cabin connects privately to its own head with shower (starboard: Headhunter freshwater vacuum flush toilet; port: manual raw-water flush).
Forepeak
Gear storage and chain locker, accessed from the port forward head and foredeck hatch.
Ground Tackle
SCRIMP vacuum-infused FRP construction with Core-Cell structural foam and vinylester resin, incorporating an infused structural grid. The cast-lead shoal-draft keel carries 22,000 lbs of ballast in an externally cast bulb and houses the centerboard trunk. Keel bolts have been inspected and re-torqued under current ownership. The centerboard is solid fiberglass (approximately 500 lbs), hydrodynamically shaped, and retracts fully into the keel trunk on an electric captive-reel winch; it is normally raised under power and deployed under sail to enhance upwind performance. The spade rudder is SCRIMP-infused fiberglass on a carbon stock with self-aligning needle bearings. The deck is a foam-cored sandwich overlaid with glued and laid teak, replaced in 2019 by Teakdecking Systems at Hinckley, Portsmouth, RI. Topsides are Awlgrip 'Timeless Green’ with gold cove, double white boot stripes (all new 2022) and red bottom (2026).
A spacious dedicated machinery room provides standing access and generous working clearance around the main engine, generator, watermaker, freshwater pressure system and hydraulic equipment, with room for multiple technicians to work simultaneously. Access is through watertight doors from the galley passageway and the owner's shower.

MYSTERY is supported by an unusually complete documentation package: owner and yard maintenance records; work orders and invoices for the 2023–2026 renewal program; equipment manuals (full paper set aboard); systems documentation; sail and rating certificates (UMS measurement certificates; ORC, CRF and NYYC-CR 2026); and a detailed 256-line systems and spares inventory. Engine-condition monitoring is documented: 2023 and 2024 laboratory oil analyses both reported normal wear-metal readings with no identified fuel, water or antifreeze contamination, and the 2024 compression record is on file.
