This 2003 Legacy Yachts 34 Express is a rare opportunity to own a beautifully maintained, upgraded, and properly stored example of this iconic downeast cruiser. With her efficient single diesel, bow thruster, and updated electronics, she is ready for day boating, coastal cruising, or even tackling the Great Loop.
The Legacy 34 Express features a roomy and comfortably appointed bridgedeck and cockpit. Overhead, a stretch of canvas shades the bridgedeck, but occasionally, the temptation to drop the canvas and enjoy the convertible top will be there. Visibility from the helm is excellent. Although the engine compartment is directly underfoot, careful insulation and baffles keep noise levels well in check. Access is via a large, hydraulic-assisted hatch. Her hull is balsa-cored E-glass and polyester resin with an outer laminate of vinylester resin for improved resistance to blistering. Directional weave fabrics are selected to orient the fiber in the direction of the loads, so that the hull is stiff and strong, yet light. High-density foam stringers replace conventional wood ones to eliminate the transfer of engine vibration. The hull to deck joint is bonded and mechanically fastened on six-inch centers to the inboard turning hull flange. Below the waterline, the 34 Express features a moderate-V bottom with wide chine flats aft, a steep entry, a pair of lifting strakes, and a skeg providing a soft ride with roll dampened significantly. She tracks well even in cross or quartering seas and corners with astonishingly little heel. More importantly, while many planing hulls have to run at high speeds to achieve plane and level out the bow, this boat lifts onto a plane at just 12 knots. Her unique underbody configuration allows her to go faster while using less fuel. Through the companionway door, the cabin features inviting accommodations that resemble a condominium. To starboard there is a curved settee and a table that may be moved to the bridgedeck for dining under the canvas. To port, there's a well-equipped galley with refrigerator, two-burner stove, and stainless sink. A well-sized head compartment can be found aft. The forward stateroom features a traditional double V-berth with plenty of stowage beneath.
