Rebecca Boat | 51' Hinckley 1989
INTRODUCTION:
REBECCA is a very nice example of the popular Hinckley Sou’wester 51 that has been continuously cared for and upgraded by her current owner of 20 years. She was built with the desirable two cabin, two head layout and features a tall, triple spreader mast and furling boom. Her centerboard keel and spade rudder improve her maneuverability and give her access to harbors that would be off limits for boats with a deeper fixed keel.
Stored inside and cared for by either Morris Yachts or Hinckley Yachts in Southwest Harbor for the past 20 years, REBECCA is in the process of getting her annual service to be ready for the coming season. Recent upgrades include new hull paint, new standing rigging, electronics, batteries and inverter/charger
CONSTRUCTION:
HULL: The hull is constructed from a hand laid laminate of isophthalic resin reinforced with knit fabric of E-glass configuration. A core of cross-linked PVC foam is sandwiched between the outer and inner portions of the laminate effectively creating two FRP skins connected by a foam core. The foam is used to make the hull thicker which reduces local skin deflection without adding significant weight. The foam core is removed, and the hull is reinforced with additional layers of fiberglass in areas such as the hull/deck connecting flange, centerline, keel, chainplates, rudder post, and all thru-hull fittings.
- Centerboard with manual pennant to winch in cockpit
- Spade rudder with stainless steel post (upper and lower rudder bearings replaced 2019)
- Dark Green Awlgrip hull with double white boot stripe and gold cove stripe (2020)
- Red bottom paint
- Reverse transom provides additional waterline
DECK: The deck is constructed from vinylester resin and E-glass knit fabrics with a PVC foam core. High density core is used as reinforcement under high load areas such as genoa tracks, etc. The core is eliminated entirely under very high load points such as primary winch pads and hull deck flanges. These areas receive additional laminations to ensure that adequate strength as well as compressive qualities are maintained.

The layout of REBECCA is thoughtfully designed to be useful both offshore and when coastal cruising and is beautifully finished in satin varnished cherry with traditional solid teak and holly cabin sole and a while paneled overhead with cherry batons.
Going down the companionway, there is a full Nav-station to starboard, where the navigator can freely communicate with the cockpit. Aft of the Nav station is the navigator's quarter berth.
Opposite to port is a large, comfortable quarter cabin with a double berth and its own en-suite head.
Forward of the Nav-station is the galley which is fully equipped and properly set-up for offshore meal prep and gourmet cooking when desired. Galley space extends across the center line to elegant storage on the port side.
Next forward one finds the full-beam salon, with a u-shaped settee to port, a straight settee to starboard and a center line drop leaf table that will seat the entire crew. There are lee-clothes port and starboard for offshore.
The forward cabin is accessed through an arched doorway with pocket door and also includes an en-suite head with separate shower stall and a large, comfortable full beam double berth.
