"Sun Dazzler" is a proven and well-equipped bluewater sailer, ready to see her next chapter as a long distance cruiser, regional explorer, or extremely comfortable live-aboard yacht. She is a seaworthy and easily managed global voyager. If any of your future dreams include sailing beyond the horizon, beyond the weather forecast, and to the outer edge of your comfort zone, this Mariner/Mayflower 48 is the kind of boat you'll want to carry you.
Built in the highly regarded Mayflower yard in Taiwan, Sun Dazzler shows the craftsmanship and intention of high level boat builders. Her design combines those traits most preferred by skippers going offshore.
The spacious center cockpit gives a commanding view and a sense of ease and control to the pilot. The extended fin keel (or cutaway) and skeg combine maneuverability, tracking, and protection for the rudder. And the ketch rig (with removable inner stay on the main mast) provides a balanced and easily managed sail plan for shorthanded crew. She is big and comfortable and solid in a seaway.
Upgrades made along the way reflect her experienced owners and the ever present push toward added seaworthiness. The pulpit/anchor roller is a beautiful piece of custom fabrication that facilitates anchoring and weighing as well as sail management and even boarding. The stern rail is one large solid piece of stainless tubing (as opposed to stanchions and lifelines). Deck stowage has been added in the form of beautiful teak boxes, and mast steps facilitate rig inspection and management.
All sails are on roller furling hardware, allowing for fast transitions and easy reefing. And a self-steering system on the transom backs up the SIMRAD Robertson auto-pilot and keeps the boat effortlessly on course without the need for nibbling into your electrical budget.
The large center cockpit makes for easy boat management, with all engine monitoring mounted right on the helm pedestal. A full enclosure makes for comfort in all seasons.
She carries 150 gallons of fuel for the Perkins 85 h.p. engine (2588 hrs.) Freshwater capacity is 200 gallons but essentially unlimited due to the 9gph water maker, which makes rinsing, washing, and showering a daily luxury.
400' of 3/8" anchor chain was new in 2010.
Below decks, Sun Dazzler's cabins feel rich and cozy, with well-crafted cabinetry and upholstery. The galley is well laid out with top and side loading refrigeration, a 4-burner gimbal stove, double sink, and ample stowage. The main salon is inviting and the two cabins, each with their own head, are spacious, private, and very comfortable.
Recent work down below includes recommissioned refrigeration/freezer and all new opening portlights throughout (2025).
Whether on a thousand-mile tack, weekending in the PNW, or simply hanging out at anchor, Sun Dazzler is a rare vessel for her combination of traits and strengths. If you are considering a boat in this class, and dreaming of passages where comfort, safety and sturdiness cannot be compromised, you should make time to come see her in Brinnon, WA.
