38' Snug Harbor 2003

"MY GIRL II" is a 38' Downeast-style cruiser and designed by Carroll Lowell with input from builder, Jeff Gray at Snug Harbor Yachts. Her hull utilizes the latest cold-molded method which consists of two layers of Western red cedar over Douglas fir - tongue & Groove planking.

Beautifully finished with Mahogany joinery, she is spacious and open with a generous beam.  Her side decks are wide and uncluttered and she boasts a gorgeous classic butterfly hatch on her cabin trunk.

Powered by a 450 HP Cummins turbocharged diesel, she is economical at her 13 kt cruise (with propeller cage) and tops out around 16 kts (with propeller cage).  She is very responsive and manageable around the docks with her electric bow thruster and large Downeast rudder.

The 6.5KW Onan Genset (only 155 hrs!) provides plenty of power while at anchor.

Hull And Deck

The hull is constructed of 1/4" western red cedar diagonally planked in alternating directions over one layer of longitudinal 5/8" x 1" douglas fir tongue-in-

groove planks.  The three layers are cold-molded with West System epoxy.  One layer of 10 oz. fiberglass cloth is applied to the exterior and flood-coated with

West System epoxy.  The overall finished hull thickness is 1 1/4".  The interior surface is coated with epoxy.  The exterior was then primed and coated with

multiple coats of claret Awlgrip.  Bootstripe is white.  Bottom is black.  Deck is off-white with off-white non-skid.  Cockpit sole is solid teak planking.

The foredeck consists of four layers of 1/4" marine plywood laminated with epoxy.  The side decks are 1" marine plywood.  Decks are set on 1 1/4" x 2 1/2"

laminated douglas fir beams and are covered with Dynel cloth and epoxy which provides a waterproof nonskid surface.

The cockpit is self-bailing.  Cockpit deck consists of one layer of 5/8" marine plywood with a 1/2" overlay of teak planking.  Two hatches with hydraulic lifts

provide access to the rudderpost, generator, fresh water components, and storage.  A propane locker and cockpit bench with storage under are built in.  The

bench seat cushion and backrest are made of closed-cell foam with a Sunbrella fabric covering.  The cockpit area is approximately 10' x 10'.  A full-width teak

swim platform with folding stainless steel swim ladder is attached to the transom.

All exterior surfaces, excluding teak, are primed and coated with Awlgrip.  Deck color is "Sand."  Cabin sides and cabin trunk color is "Oyster White."  All glass

in main cabin windows and sliding cockpit door is tinted laminated safety glass.  The cockpit door is laminated with an exterior of teak and an interior of

mahogany to match the interior cabinetry.  The transom is teak, v-groove planked, and finished with semi-gloss varnish.  All hardware, opening ports, cleats,

mooring bit, windlass, grabrails, handrail, bow pulpit, and searchlight are bronze.

Butterfly hatch over forward stateroom, dorade vents with bronze cowls above head and galley.

Accommodations

"MY GIRL" has an amazingly open and spacious interior with sleeping accommodations for four; with owner's stateroom forward and L-shaped settee in main salon that can convert to a bunk for two when the table is modified to lower.  The galley is down and to port of the head.  The forward cabin has two 7' long single berths (one port and one stbd) with a chest of Mahogany drawers fitted between.  The mattresses are constructed of three foam densities, totaling 5" thick.  Additional storage is located in a drawer below the berths.  There is a hanging locker forward and behind a sliding panel with stained glass mirror.  A gorgeous classic Butterfly hatch above provides excellent light and is finished in mahogany.

The U-shaped galley below is opposite the enclosed head.  The head includes a shower, teak grate, teak grate over toilet seat, vanity, stained glass mirror and ventilation overhead. The electric push button freshwater toilet is by Raritan Atlantes and includes a macerator.

The main salon is very open and spacious; terrific for entertaining.  The starboard helm station includes a sliding door to starboard; great for ventilation and visibility while docking.  The custom helm seat also provides storage for charts and has a drop-front bar with bottle rack.  The Nav area is to port and features a chart table with book rack.  Aft and to port, is a drop leaf dinette table that lowers to convert into a double berth.  A custom bookcase with locker storage below is opposite to starboard.  The interior cushions are fabricated in "Hunter Green" Ultrasuede.  Four removable sections of teak and holly cabin sole provide excellent access to the main engine.

Galley

The u-shaped Galley is equipped with a two-burner propane range, Nova Kool Model RFS6100 2-door refrigerator/freezer (110volts AC or 12 volts DC), stainless steel sink with pressurized hot and cold water, refrigerated ice box next to sink (AC and DC), Corian countertops and built-in dish, cup, glassware and wine bottle rack.
