DESCRIPTION:
LOON is a beautiful example of the classic Hinckley Sou’wester 42 and has benefitted from excellent stewardship under two owners. She is set up with the desirable dinette/quarter berth layout and is in the water ready to go sailing.
INTRODUCTION:
LOON is a two owner Sou’wester 42 Stowaway Sloop that has always been Hinckley maintained and stored since new. Her current owner has done extensive upgrades and maintenance and unfortunately due to a change of plans is now putting her on the market.

DECK and HULL:
- White Awlgripped topsides (2008)
- White house and deck with off white molded-in nonskid (nonskid painted and smooth gelcoat machine polished 2024).

Construction:
Hand laid fiberglass hull and deck. Hull is cored with Airex for additional stiffness and strength per weight. The core is deleted and the hull reinforced with additional laminations in all high stress areas. Hull stringers cored with Airex are bonded to the hull and integrated with the mast step and engine mounts to form a single unit that is strong and light.. The deck is set in a 6" flange on the hull, then fiberglassed and bolted in place.

- The rudder is cored fiberglass, skeg-mounted on a stainless rudder shaft.

COCKPIT:
This Hinckley SW-42 has a large "T" shaped cockpit with teak-capped coaming which comfortably accommodates a large crew, but is also well laid out for short handed sailing. There are built-in stainless steel-lined coaming pockets and the opening cockpit seats have molded-in nonskid. The teak cockpit sole has built in drainage scuppers. Barient #32 ST electric genoa winches are within easy reach of the helmsman so the boat can be tacked single-handed if necessary. The cockpit dodger offers excellent protection, and visibility is unobscured from the helm.

ACCOMMODATIONS & LAYOUT:
LOON sleeps up to six in two cabins including open aft quarterberth. Her interior is varnished Cherry wood with white overhead and cherry trim. Her teak and holly cabin sole is finished bright.
- Cabins cushions new 2024 (cream colored Ultrasuede).
- Lots of storage in lockers and behind and under settees
- Portlights and double opening hatches with screens supply abundant natural light and ventilation
- Opening ports with screens – in forward cabin, head and aft quarterberth to cockpit
- Overhead dorade shut-offs
- Interior lighting throughout is by brass fixtures and additional dome lights have been added where necessary.
- The interior is heated with an Espar DL4 cabin heater (new 2024).
Starting forward, the Owner's Stateroom has "V" berths forward.
- Insert with cushion creates a double berth (new upgraded Hand Crafted Mattress 2024)
- Seat between berths has storage within the seat and a matching cushion.

A cherry door separates this cabin from the main salon and there is also a private door to the head. There are forward access doors to the forepeak chain locker that is partitioned for chain and rope storage.
HEAD: (Next aft to port)
This head offers private access to the forward owner's cabin and has a separate door to the main salon.
The head is finished in cherry wood and has white formica flooring with teak slats.

MAIN CABIN:
Forward starboard in the Main Cabin, across from the head, are a full-length cedar lined hanging locker with shelf over and a bureau with a locker over outboard, forward of the settee.

- Port and starboard ports providing plenty of natural light.
- A large double-opening overhead hatch with screen is above the dining table.
- (5) 12-volt brass lights in the main cabin
- A half bulkheads with cut-in handholds separate the Nav area and Galley from the main salon area.
The Main Salon area features a Dinette to port and a transom berth and entertainment center to starboard.
Starboard:
- A settee/pull-out transom berth has storage under and behind the berth
- (2) 12V brass lamps - mounted over the bureau forward of the settee/transom berth.
Port:
- The U-shaped Dinette is to port with a varnished cherry drop-leaf dining table that can be lowered to form a double berth. A drop-leaf allows for easy access. There is storage in and behind the settees.
- Forward and aft lockers are outboard the dinette with a center alcove bookshelf.
- Clock, barometer and a stereo speaker are mounted on the forward bulkhead

Navigation Station:
Aft of the starboard settee is a full Nav Station that faces forward and has a full-size cherry nav table and built in cushioned nav seat.

- Outboard is a gimballed Shipmate propane 3-burner stove with oven and broiler. Storage lockers are outboard the stove. Custom matching Formica stove cover hides-away when not in use.
- Aft is lift-top access to the deep-bin refrigeration and freezer with new Sea Frost 12v refrigeration (2021 and 2024)
