One of the most important exterior upgrades was the removal of the original teak decks. They were replaced with a practical, low-maintenance non-skid surface, eliminating one of the more significant long-term concerns associated with boats of this era. Her cockpit cover and Bimini top are also in very good condition, providing useful protection at anchor and underway.

The Kadey-Krogen 42 remains a highly capable cruising platform, with a full-displacement hull, world-class cruising efficiency supported by generous tankage, wide walkaround decks, and a proven single-engine propulsion system. JillieD is powered by a Ford Lehman SP135 and carries approximately 700 gallons of fuel and 360 gallons of freshwater. Her two-stateroom, two-head arrangement offers legitimate privacy for owners and guests, making her well-suited to extended cruising.

Handling is made considerably easier by both bow and stern thrusters, with remote control capability, while her hydraulic stabilizers provide a meaningful improvement in comfort underway in beam seas. The propulsion, steering, stabilization, fuel, electrical, plumbing, heating, and sanitation systems have all received substantial attention and upgrades.

The pilothouse has been updated with modern navigation equipment connected through a NMEA 2000 network, including Garmin chartplotting, autopilot, AIS, VHF, depth instrumentation, and radar.

Inside, JillieD retains the practical layout and substantial joinery for which these boats are known, while incorporating several useful custom touches. The salon features a live-edge wood table that gives the space some character without feeling out of place aboard the boat. The galley has been upgraded with an impressive Isotherm refrigerator and freezer installation, along with updated LED lighting throughout the vessel. Upholstery, window coverings, heads, plumbing fixtures, freshwater toilets, and LED lighting have also been updated.

Additional cruising equipment includes a Northern Lights 5kW generator, Magnum inverter, Hurricane diesel heating system, washer and dryer, Warn winch on the mast/boom, and an aluminum-bottom RIB with a 20 hp four-stroke outboard.

There are plenty of Kadey-Krogen 42s with the same proven hull and practical arrangement, but relatively few combine stabilization, bow and stern thrusters, non-skid decks, current networked electronics, and this level of ongoing improvement.
