Vessel and Equipment Highlights
The Symbol 55 Yachtfisher is a distinctive motor yacht known for her sweeping sheerline and gracefully styled profile. Designed by world-renowned naval architect Jack Sarin, who became Symbol’s exclusive designer, she reflects over four decades of yacht design expertise. Sarin is celebrated internationally for his timeless mega-yacht designs, and the Symbol 55 embodies the same elegant proportions, seaworthiness, and enduring appeal.
The Symbol 55 Yachtfisher offers a spacious and versatile layout featuring a large cockpit, expansive flybridge and sundeck lounge, three generous staterooms, and two full heads, all finished in a warm Burmese teak with satin finished interior. “Outbound” has undergone an extensive refit and complete interior redecoration by Sylvia Bolton Design, resulting in a beautifully updated and highly functional cruising yacht.
Her interior upgrades include custom inlaid teak tables, recently installed Brazilian ebony flooring, and a fully modernized galley equipped with all-new appliances. Highlights include a full-size Samsung refrigerator with dual doors and drawers, an Empava four-burner induction cooktop, and a built-in Panasonic 1000-watt microwave. The galley also features a new Sarlai commercial-grade rectangular stainless-steel sink designed to satisfy even the most discerning chef.
Opposite the galley is a spacious four-person dinette with a custom Wenge wood table featuring a compass rose inlay, maple border, teak sea rails, and a stainless-steel high-low pedestal base. Additional onboard comforts include two Biko 220-volt front-loading washers and dryers, a new Olympia 60,000 BTU hydronic heating system, and Marine Air reverse-cycle air conditioning for year-round cruising comfort.
The fully enclosed flybridge is exceptionally well equipped with a complete Garmin navigation suite backed up by a full Furuno NavNet system, including a Furuno autopilot with satellite compass. “Outbound” features two fully redundant navigation systems with dual radars (Garmin and Furuno), dual VHF radios, twin fishing sounders with multi-beam transducers, and Garmin forward-looking sonar.
Additional electronics include a FLIR infrared night-vision camera with ClearCruise software, an integrated AR200 augmented-reality sensor, and a wide-view Ramnarine backup camera for docking assistance. Eight multifunction displays provide comprehensive access to chart plotting, radar, sonar, and camera systems, while a new Coastal Explorer computer-navigation system further enhances operational capability. A wireless trackball mouse mounted on the helm chair armrest adds convenience underway. The bridge is also fitted with thermostatically controlled hydronic air handlers and defrosters, making offseason and winter cruising exceptionally comfortable.
The cockpit is spacious and highly practical, featuring three opening lazarette hatches and a wide transom door leading to the integrated swim platform. A secondary stainless-steel electric davit is mounted in the cockpit and fitted with a custom electric crab-pot puller. This davit is also configured to lift an 800cc motorcycle, allowing convenient transportation ashore for exploring ports of call. Stainless-steel deck tie-downs secure the bike during passage. The integrated swim platform includes four polished stainless-steel staple rails for added safety and security.
On deck, “Outbound” is equipped with a Brower electric davit and stainless-steel tender cradle designed to carry the included 12-foot AB inflatable with a 30 hp Honda outboard. Wide side decks are protected by 1¼-inch stainless-steel railings with integrated fender storage for four fenders.
Ground tackle equipment includes a heavy-duty anchor pulpit fitted with a Maxwell 3500 capstan/chain-wheel windlass and a Rocna Vulcan 35 kg anchor with 200 feet of 3/8-inch chain and 150 feet of line rode. Fore and aft fresh- and saltwater washdown systems add practicality, while dual fixed LED spotlights mounted on the bow railings provide excellent nighttime visibility for logs and crab pots. Additional upgrades include Shaft Shark line cutters on the prop shafts and four dual-color (blue/white) SeaBlaze underwater lights mounted beneath the swim platform. The radar arch features independently switched aft-facing LED spotlights and floodlights, complemented by forward deck floodlights beneath the flybridge brow.
The flybridge, sundeck, cockpit, and swim platform have all been upgraded with new SeaDek synthetic teak decking, while the side decks and foredeck are finished in Awlgrip “Moondust” nonskid. Among the several floorplans available during production, the three-stateroom layout aboard “Outbound” was the most sought after. In this arrangement, both the galley and dinette are located below deck, while queen berths are found in both the forward and aft staterooms.
During construction, the lower helm was intentionally omitted to create a larger, more open salon. The result is a highly comfortable living space featuring two suede-upholstered Ekornes Stressless reclining chairs to starboard and a large Flexsteel L-shaped leather sofa to port. Entertainment amenities include a 52-inch 4K Vizio television with soundbar mounted on the aft bulkhead, creating a true theater-like experience. The salon stereo system was professionally installed by Magnolia Hi-Fi and includes built-in speakers and a subwoofer. A custom salon table with compass rose inlay and stainless-steel high-low base complements the yacht’s refined interior detailing. All interior tables feature Wenge tops with compass rose inlays, maple borders, and teak sea rails.
Additional features include a split-level hardtop over the flybridge and sundeck with a new full-canvas enclosure. Eight solar panels mounted atop the hardtops generate up to 2.4 kW of continuous daytime charging power. An 800 amp-hour 12V AGM battery bank provides substantial overnight energy reserves, minimizing generator usage. Power management is handled by a Magnum 2.8 kW pure sine wave inverter and a 12 kW Northern Lights generator.
“Outbound” is powered by twin 435 hp Caterpillar diesel engines, providing a comfortable cruise speed of 16–18 knots or an economical 11-knot displacement cruise for maximum fuel efficiency.
Thanks to her generous 16-foot, 9-inch beam, the Symbol 55 Yachtfisher offers the interior volume of a much larger vessel. She is constructed on a solid fiberglass modified-V hull with 22 degrees of deadrise and pronounced lifting strakes for excellent directional stability. Her flared bow and long overhang deliver a soft, dry ride in challenging sea conditions.
The engine room is accessed through a lift-up stairwell hatch and includes a large mechanic’s toolbox with built-in drawers for convenient servicing. “Outbound” has benefited from extensive mechanical upgrades, including complete rebuilds of both Caterpillar 3208 435 hp diesel engines in late 2024. As of 2026, the engines have accumulated only 80 operating hours since rebuild.
The rebuilds were completed by a certified Caterpillar mechanic at NC Machinery using genuine Caterpillar OEM components throughout, including pistons and bearings. All machine work—including sleeves, cylinder heads, crankshafts, and camshafts—was performed by Cam Grinders Machine Shop in Seattle, with documentation and receipts available. The marine exhaust system was redesigned and upgraded with new exhaust riser cans fabricated by Jason Smith at JNL Welding.
In 2023, all running gear was removed, inspected, and reinstalled with new cutlass bearings and PYI dripless shaft seals. Both four-blade propellers were balanced and tuned by Kruger. An 11 hp Side-Power 24-volt bow thruster was installed in 2023, and the yacht features dual control stations—one on the flybridge and one aft on the sundeck—both equipped with shifting and thruster controls for easy docking and maneuvering.
The foregoing represents only a brief overview of the extensive upgrades and refit work completed aboard “Outbound.” She is an exceptionally well-equipped and meticulously maintained example of the highly regarded Symbol 55 Yachtfisher, offered in true turnkey condition and ready to provide years of reliable cruising to her next owners.
