“WILD GOOSE” is a Bermuda 40 Custom yawl built in 1965. Annual maintenance including sanding and multiple varnish coats for all exterior surfaces,  Her design is timeless. She exemplifies the best classical example of what a modern yacht should resemble.  

INTRODUCTION:  

The Hinckley Bermuda 40, with its classic long overhang, perfectly pitched sheer line, wide side-decks, graceful cabin profile, and distinctive near-vertical transom, has inspired deep lusting in the heart of many sailors. Designed by Bill Tripp, Jr., it is without doubt one of the most attractive sailboats ever conceived, and appears at the very top of many lists of the most successful and desirable sailboats ever made. Hinckley’s are all about the beauty of the wood, and the meticulous finish to every item on the boat. “Wild Goose” sleeps 6 and her interior is in the classic style, finished in satin coated teak and holly sole.  

The winch pads are varnished teak, not white molded fiberglass,. 

HULL AND DECK:

•    Topsides: Black 

•    Deck and House:   White gelcoat with Tan Nonskid

•    Bootstripe: Double White 

•    Bottom:  Red

•    Cove:  Gold tape cove stripe

Construction:

The Hull is solid hand laid fiberglass, reinforced with additional laminations in all stress areas. The solid fiberglass deck is set in a 6” flange in the hull, then fiberglassed and bolted to form a permanent hull/deck joint. 

•    Keel:  The 4,200 lb. external lead keel is fastened with ¾” Everdur bolts. 

•    Centerboard:  Bronze centerboard is operated by a worm gear with safety override.

•    Solid teak rubrail with stainless steel guard runs full-length just below the sheer

Deck Features:

•    Stainless steel bow and stern pulpits

•    Double lifelines with port & starboard gates

•    Two opening hatches with screens and white translucent covers – over main cabin and forward cabin

•    Two 6” re-chromed cowl vents - in port & stbd varnished teak dorade boxes + one 14” extended chrome cowl vent for foredeck in chain locker, all with storm plates to replace cowls

•    Freshwater/seawater deckwash on port dorade-box – with valve in head cabinet

•    Electrical outlet on port dorade-box 

•    Stainless steel genoa tracks - coaming mounted

•    Varnished teak toe rails, trim, coamings, handrails, and winch, hatch and vent boxes.

•    Varnished teak tops for aft lazarettes and propane locker with custom canvas covers

•    Varnished teak holders for original spruce spinnaker pole

COCKPIT:

A large comfortable cockpit incorporates seating all the way around with varnished teak coamings designed at a height and angle for optimal back support when seated. Perfect for sleeping out when appropriate.

•    New Dodger, wheel cover, and sail covers, cockpit side covers, fantail hatch covers

•    White cockpit cushions - closed-cell cushions with Hinckley blue pin stripes in port sail locker 

•    Varnished teak cockpit table – pedestal mounted with varnished teak extender leaves – stbd sail locker

•    Binocular holder - attached to forward-binnacle

•    Helmsman seat – with cushion – attaches to mizzen

•    Cockpit floodlight - from dual spreader lights, plug-in for 12V high power spotlight to starboard inside cabin and on forward dorade-box

Varnished teak cockpit coamings have inboard winch handle pockets.

•    Opening water-tight sail locker seats provide both sail and equipment storage.

•    Forward varnished teak companionway entry to interior accommodations.

•    Engine instruments are recessed in forward end of cockpit – good visibility from helm.

•    Teak cockpit grate over nonskid cockpit sole 

•    Self-bailing cockpit with scuppers

•    Starboard holder for varnished cockpit companionway hatches in seat locker.

“WILD GOOSE” has a 6-berth B-40 layout.  The interior is finished in mahogany trim and white overhead.  Cabin sole is solid teak and holl.

VESSEL WALKTHROUGH:

FORWARD CABIN

•    V berth - with cushioned seat between. 

•    Varnished cabinetry over outboard each berth and drop front and drawer storage below.

•    Aft to starboard is a small hanging locker next to a large hanging locker 

•    4-drawer Bureau with full shelf to port with additional hanging storage access behind drawers

•    Mirror over bureau on fwd bulkhead 

•    110-volt outlet

•    Forepeak/anchor locker with varnished cabinet doors is accessed from the forward cabin.

•    3 Portlights  

•    Overhead opening hatch to foredeck, with screen and 2-way opening 

•    Storage for varnished companionway hatch screens over berth

Forepeak access - V-berth door access to lighted chain storage locker in forepeak, with optional extra chrome cowl vent and storage shelves.

A locking privacy door separates the forward cabin from the rest of the interior.  

Next aft, starboard is an additional large hanging locker and opposite is the Head to port.

The Head is next aft to port with locking door.

The Main Salon is customized with a convertible double berth to port with storage outboard and bookshelves for storage on the forward bulkhead.  To starboard is a pilot berth with a pull-out transom berth/settee. 

Dining table – Centerline is varnished mahogany dining table that can seat up to eight people.  This table has 2 fold-down leaves and a storage drawer at each end.

The Main Cabin includes:

•    Large windows and ports.

•    Large opening white translucent hatch over with screen - 2-way opening.

•    Overhead ventilation dorade 

•    Integrated hand rails over outboard and a roof mounted teak handrail

•    Teak and holly sole

•    Built-in sole dustpan with original aluminum dustpan

•    Two 110V electrical outlets and inverter with 110V and USB outlets

Main Salon includes:

•    Drawers under the pilot berth, and pull-out transom berths

•    Varnished mahogany shelf over port for gear storage.

•    A liquor locker is built into the starboard forward bulkhead.

•    Custom wine glass rack to port and glass storage stbd

•    Custom cutting board to cover sink – (beneath starboard bunk cushion)

Starboard aft:  Galley/Nav Station 

•    Chart stowage is over the icebox, which can double as a Nav Station. 

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:

All circuits, major mechanical components and rigging are grounded with heavy copper strapping to the keel. Lightning captures on main and mizzen masts.

12-volt DC electrical system:

Shore power 110-volt 30-amp system – with shore power inlet, shore cord and adapters. Shore power converter and inverter

MECHANICAL AND ENGINE EQUIPMENT

•    1965 Westerbeke 30HP 

•    Hot water is provided by the engine or water heater

•    Fresh Water Tanks: 3 Stainless steel (total 110-Gallons)
