Palumbo Yachts Builds First Superyacht in the Alubrid Series

Superyacht design firm HydroTech has announced that the first vessel in Sergio Cutolo’s Alubrid series is under construction at Italy’s Palumbo shipyard. Her hull was completed early in July 2012.

Built in aluminum, the 40m Columbus 130 SportHybrid features three decks and accommodation for eight. Powered by hybrid propulsion systems, the superyacht will be able to reach a maximum of 24kt, and using the electric propellers, it can travel at about 7.5 knots, consuming an estimated 30 liters of fuel per hour.

She is the first yacht to be built in Cutolo’s Alubrid series. The full range comprises hulls from 25m-65m (82′-213′). The hulls share the same aluminum construction, semi-displacing hull and characteristic vertical bow.

Yacht designer Sergio Cutolo founded Hydro Tech in 1995. Prior to running his own company, Cutolo gained experience in the mid-1980s when he joined Baglietto and eventually became head of the technical office in Varazze. In the 1990s he took on the role of assistant technical director at Rodriquez Cantieri Navali in Messina.

Cutolo’s Hydro Tech is based in Verazze, Italy.
