Back Cove Yachts Launches new 37′ Model in Maine

The first hull of the new Back Cove Downeast 37 was launched last week at a ceremony and the Maine boatbuilder says an initial sea trial has proved the boat a winner with a 25-knot cruising speed and a top speed of 29 knots.

Like the rest of Back Cove’s fleet of Down East yachts ranging from 30′ to 41′, the Downeast 37 was designed for beauty, usability and low maintenance.

“For lovers of traditional workboat styles the Back Cove Downeast 37 says ‘lobster,’ and for our friends from the Chesapeake, she says ‘Deadrise,’ ” Back Cove V.P. of sales and marketing Bentley Collins said of the launch on the company blog. “No matter where you do your boating, this boat has a look that will turn heads in any harbor that she enters.”

Features include an open 12′ x 12′ cockpit, a cabin with an island berth for extended cruising, an open and bright interior and a single Cummins diesel engine for propulsion.

The 10-year-old Back Cove recently launched a new company tagline — “Practical Elegance, From Maine” — and named a new president, Jason Constantine, who was promoted internally after four years overseeing all manufacturing operations at Back Cove’s Rockland, Maine, facility, where lamination work is carried out for Sabre Yachts and where the Back Cove line is built.
