Superyacht Association Founded in the Philippines

The yachting industry’s advance into Asia continues with the announcement of the founding of the Philippine Superyacht Association. The Association has been formed in response to the growing amount of superyacht traffic, power and sail, currently navigating the region.

A statement from the Philippine Superyacht Association offers this insight, “Historically, the majority of the world’s privately owned superyachts have gravitated towards the Mediterranean Sea and the Islands of the Caribbean. A recent trend, however, has been for yachts to venture further afield. Superyacht owners are now discovering many beautiful parts of the world, previously unexplored by maritime tourism. Strong economic growth in Asia has also produced many wealthy individuals craving ownership of such luxury items as sailing and motoryachts.”

The founding of the Philippines’ first national superyacht body follows similar moves in Asia, from Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Thailand and Indonesia. It is hoped that collaboration between the various Associations will serve to further boost the entire Asian region as a true megayacht destination.
